Cross-country running changes St. Benedict runner Emily Marcolini into something she is usually not.

"Cross-country makes me a much more competitive person," she said. "By nature, I am not a competitive person. Cross-country makes me want to go out and be competitive."

Marcolini cruised to victory in the junior girls' event at the 2010 regional (NOSSA) high school cross-country running championship Friday at Laurentian University.
